Redheads are at the center top. The male is obvious with its bright red head, black breast, yellow eye, and blue bill with black tip. The female is to the right. The female also has a blue bill with black tip. The base of the bill has a dark outline and no white behind the bill, eliminating female Ring-necked. The female's eye-ring with inconpicuous white line behind the eye on a brown background is consistent with REDH and not RNDU. The lack of contrast between the back and sides is good for REDH. RNDU female's back and side should have more contrast. The round head on the female is consistent with REDH. A female RNDU's head should have a "tall rear crown" (per Sibley's.
Detalles de la observación
One male and one female. The original Details write-up had stated one male two females, but one of those females was found to be a female Ring-necked. I lost original write-up, so I am re-doing the edit of count of females. The approved, original report had 2 total and so did the Age & Sex section, so nothing material has changed. Both REDHs and RNDUs present. The males of each species are easily separated. The females are more difficult. Please see De's cropped photo. Under the photo I go over the fieldmarks for the female birds to eliminate female RNDU and support REDH.
