Detalles de la observación
Ed, Debbie and I walked to the Shoreline when we first encountered a family of American Woodcock, one adult with 3 chicks doing the Woodcock shuffle or bob.... across the road to the opposite side. All 4 went across the rode "bobbing" then the little ones scrambled across the last foot to the grass. We also encountered 3 Brant, 5 of us watched three Brant in the scope foraging with CAGO in the upper salt marsh today. They apparently showed up or were finally seen yesterday. These black headed Branta have been an "On MDI" nemesis bird for sometime now. I have always had them flying. 25 inches in length, the Brant is at the smallest end of the Canada Goose, with whom they were spending time this afternoon and then later in the day when I returned. The all black head and neck with a swash of white on the neck make this a pale-bellied race Branta bernicla hrota? These are the first Brant for Ed and Debbie Hawkes as well, who have lived at this location for a few decades. I only have a few records for MDI and all fly overs.. This is not a commonly found bird on MDI. One recent Thunderhole record (J. Gilbert and Barber ebird 2013.
