Light morph. Pics. For the past couple months I had been checking this area hoping to find a Rough-legged. I had previously found a Lapland Longspur with a Horned Lark flock along the road earlier in the month, so I decided to do a quick drive-by to test my luck again. After passing the Oakridge Dairy barns, I saw a buteo perched on a snag on the east side of the road. I was driving too fast to get a good look at it but my first impression was that it seemed a little larger than a Red-tailed Hawk and was somewhat darker overall. I quickly decided to turn around and double check, hoping that it was something else. Good thing I swung back around. Rough-legged Hawk confirmed! Jobs Hill Rd strikes again, and it just so happened that Rough-legged Hawk was the UConn Bird of the Day! This was BOTD #5 for me in 2021. I guess it was meant to be. :)
