Detalles de la observación
*Rare locally but not flagged by eBird as such (there are many reports of Mallard locally but they are mostly domestic Mallards or Mottled Ducks reported as Mallards by observers who cannot or do not distinguish the differences between them). My first observation of a Mallard in Alachua County which I strongly believed to be an authentic wild Mallard. Most "real" (overwintering migratory) Mallards begin migrating north in February but its feasible for one to stopover or be observed in April. The drake had the same proportions as the Mottled Duck hens next to it, lacking the deep belly of the domestic Mallards I've seen at the local Home Depot's retention pond. The drake and one of the Mottled Ducks took flight over the prairie when a ranger drove nearby in a pickup truck. Photos.
