Detalles de la observación
Found about 1/2 mile off Aurora Lagoon. Several hundred other brachyramphus murrelets in the area. This bird was obvious at a distance: dark blackish upperparts, clean white throat, dark nape lacking a white collar (pattern reminiscent of a basic plumage Pacific Loon), and longer bill than Marbled Murrelet. Also appeared slightly larger and in flight bulkier than a Marbled. Seen well by myself, Dave Sonneborn and Rich MacIntosh in Dave's open skiff. This was my fourth trip to the area in two weeks hoping to find a LBMU. Others had been documented in this area this summer (one on 2 June 2011, Karl Stolzfus, and three on 23 July 2011, Kathy Kuletz et al. during murrelet surveys in the Bay--all photographed).
