Detalles de la observación

**RARE Hybrid. Apparent second description of "Schain's Warbler". While the projected vocalization was indistinguishable from PRWA, plumage traits appeared to be either heterozygous or hemi-heterozygous (2nd generation xBWWA) for BWWA and PRWA. First field impression upon visual observation was BWWA. The first description of this hybrid was by Ryan Schain on June 18, 2011 at Crane WMA, Massachusetts (S8360155, with photographs) and was later refound by Marshall Illiff (S8402495). No other descriptions have been found to date. 1.5 hrs of field study. Undertail coverts entirely yellow (indicative of PRWA), not white near base. Schain's bird had BWWA-like undertail coverts. Black eyestripe not as thick as BWWA, but stronger than PRWA. Schain's bird had weaker eyestripe perfect for PRWA. However, Schain's bird was a female while this individual is almost certainly a male based on persistent singing behavior. While BWWA facial coloration is uniformly yellow, this bird had PRWA-like variation in color intensity, particularly, at some angles, hints of an olive-green auricular patch and a yellow supercilium slice created by a PRWA-like darkening of the crest. Base of cheek stripe barely noticeable. No breast marking present. "Pseudo-stripes" of higher-contrast yellow color suggest some penetrance of PRWA genes. Forehead coloring intense and olive-green in color, suggesting PRWA. Wing patterning indicative of BWWA, with medium-contrast wing bars on blue-gray wings, giving predominant and immediate BWWA impression. From rear, however, olive-green rump and backside with primary patterning give perfect PRWA impression. The bird was observed at 42.9981, -85.4636.
