A displaying male Australian Bustard walking away through saltmarsh. The Australian Bustard (Ardeotis australis) is one of Australia’s largest birds. Male Bustards have an extraordinary mating display – they inflate their large throat sac and produce a deep boom as well as a roaring noise as they strut with their tails cocked. This male Bustard was displaying in saltmarsh on the dry bed of Wooleen Lake in the semi-arid Murchison region of Western Australia, and kept calling as he walked away from us in typical bustard fashion. Elevation: 293 m. Date added to IBC: September 6, 2019.
