A dark morph Wahlberg's Eagle perching in twiggy tree. Wahlberg’s Eagles (Hieraaetus wahlbergi) are the smallest of their group, and both dark and pale morphs occur. They have a small crest that aids identification. Wahlberg’s Eagles are found in woodland and savanna in sub-Saharan Africa, but are absent from rainforest. They are the commonest eagle in southern and central Africa, and prey mainly on lizards and sometimes birds, small mammals and larger insects. This dark morph bird was perching in a twiggy tree on the Skukuza to Lower Sabie Road in Kruger National Park. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: August 4, 2019.
