A Common Myna hunting on short grass – flipping over dried dung to find prey. The Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) is an introduced species native to India and south and central Asia. They are common in the highveld of eastern South Africa, and are omnivorous, foraging mainly on the ground and eating a wide range of insects and other invertebrates, fruit, human food scraps and even ectoparasites from mammals. This Myna was hunting on short grass at the Pilanesberg Centre in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa, flipping over pieces of dried animal dung to expose insects underneath. Elevation: 1146 m.
