A female Scarlet Robin perching. The western race of the Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang campbelli) is restricted to the south-western corner of Western Australia. Other races of the Scarlet Robin are found in south-eastern Australia south of about 25°S and on islands in the south-western Pacific. Scarlet Robins form permanent monogamous pairs and defend their territory all year round. They prey mainly on small insects on the ground that they spy from an elevated perch. They tend to be curious, confiding little birds and will often tolerate a quiet close approach. This female Scarlet Robin was hunting in Wandoo woodland (Eucalyptus wandoo) with her mate. Elevation: 315 m. Date added to IBC: July 12, 2018.
