Detalles de la observación
Unmistakably a Giant-Petrel. Huge and menacing yet with long wings, making it appear lithe, graceful and slender, with immense and conspicuous bill. Photos reviewed by two non-colourblind persons demonstrate dark, pinkish-red bill tip contrasting with otherwise bone-coloured bill, making this good for Northern. Juvenile or first year imm; all dark. Seen at 08:03 making several extremely close passes to the headland. Effortless in unpowered flight; direct powered flight almost unbelievably quick for a bird this massive. Generally keeping low over the water. Note: a giant-petrel was seen off the Gold Coast by Andy Jensen yesterday.
