Detalles de la observación
Seen at dawn on the north side of the westbound lane of Ocean Parkway, in the near vicinity of Cedar Beach Marina. Feeding very actively in the roadside grass for the duration of our visit with occasional bursts of running for cover into higher, more dense vegetation. A mid-sized Rail with mostly buffy-rufous tones and chestnut markings on the wings and face, finely streaked black and buffy central crown stripe blending into black-centered pale rufous mantle feathers. The legs were gray and the bill robust and flesh-colored. A fabulous find by Ken and Sue Feustel! addendum: In the early morning hours of 11/9/17 the Crake was struck by a car and killed. Necropsy by the AMNH shows it to be an underweight, juvenile (1W) male.
