This was suspected to be the taxon novum "Milpo Tapaculo"Heard, seen, and poorly photographed; upper Satipo Road, 3425 masl. Habitat was open bushland scrub in boulder-strewn glacial valley much like habitat above Bosque Ampay (Depto. Apurimac) - even the same looking bush with black bark.Possibly flushed one out of (nest?) burrow?Call 1 = series of "chi" or "che" notes at medium tempo.Call 2 = "chur" of "free" raspy note.Plumage: Adult bird was pale gray, dark lore, paler superciliary and forecrown; rump, vent, tail buffy brown with faint barring. Again, similar to birds observed above Bosque Ampay & Runtacocha (Depto. Apurimac). Second juvenile? bird similar, with more contrast in superciliary & forecrown, tertials edged brown with dusky centers; back brown? ML: Subject changed from Scytalopus sp. to Scytalopus [undescribed Millpo form] on the recommendation of Niels Krabbe. -Jay McGowan, 4Oct2017. Habitat: Cloudforest, Montane Grassland.
