Short-billed Dowitcher (R) with Long-billed Dowitcher (L). Note flack back posture, smudgy gray breast, and lack of organized barring on sides.
Detalles de la observación
Tentatively ID’d as Short-billed in the field pending review of photos and other opinions, but given divided opinions on this bird I decided to change to Short-billed/Long-billed. Foraging alongside Long-billed Dowitcher; I initially noticed it because it appeared slimmer and less chunky than the Long-billed, particularly in the breast and belly area. This bird had very faint and disorganized grayish smudging on sides of breast, as compared to more organized and bolder gray barring on sides of LBDO. Flanks and uppertail/undertail appeared more white than black, as compared to bold black barring present on LBDO. Breast appeared dirtier gray and white than accompanying Long-billed, which had a smoother gray breast. Fine black spotting on the flanks. White eyebrow perhaps more bold and flaring than Long-billed? Decent digiscoped photos.
