Detalles de la observación
Very early and unexpected. Identified in the field as a Herring (light mantle, light eye, pink legs, dark primaries), but reviewing downloaded photos revealed a very Thayer's-like (Iceland) primary pattern, both on the upperwing and underwing, which HERG x GWGU can also have. The wing pattern rules out a pure HERG. Brightening and saturating a closeup of the head (attached here) shows an orangish orbital ring - this should be red or purple (or inbetween) on ICGU, which is a more unlikely species in my opinion. Bill structure appears to fit better a hybrid better than ICGU, and overall size seemed fairly typical of HERG (and thus HERG x GWGU, which average larger than ICGU) compared to the WEGUs and CAGUs that were also in the chum line.
