NOTES: at this altitude, this should be P.melanota, and I am not 100% sure it isn't, but wave form would suggest it is P.perspicillata. to bad I didn't get out of my tent A trail travelling down from Apolo 2400 to 1000. The mull trail follows the edge of the rivers travelling through dry forest and moist small river valleys. The area is a peculiar rain shadow dry forest remanent containing many bird species found in lower altitude and latitude dry forests of Dept. of Santa Cruz. The areas is isolated and has a high plant endimism and predicted high bird endimism- but that has not been found to be true. Published studies of area are Perry et al 1997- Birds of the Central Rio Tuichi Valley with emphasis on dry forest, Madidi NP. Ornithol Monogr. 48:557-576; Pearman M 1993, The avifauna of the Rio Machariapo dry forest, northern La Paz, Bolivia , Bird Conservation International 3: 105-117; and with mention in CI working papers #1 and with additional birds an notes to be published in Ornitologia Neotropical by myself 2002. Habitat: Forest, Deciduous Forest.
