Bird was seen in complete shade making photo difficult. Cranked up ISO to 1250 and f-stop down to 5 in order to get photos. Bird never came out into the light.
Detalles de la observación
Found purely by accident while hiking past the end of the Silverbrook Trail. Crossed the 2 little wooden bridges over the pond/natural spring and headed a bit further southwest on one of the trails. Heard a faint pecking near the base of some large pine trees and found a female BBWP about 3 feet off the ground. Observed for about 20 - 25 minutes and bird stayed on same tree. I took a LOT of photos and one photo showed her with some kind of insect larva in her bill. Did not appear to be stripping off a ton of bark like I've seen with others, but instead seemed to be working on deeper holes as other woodpeckers do.
