NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 256 Weather: Cloudy, fair. *One of these woodpeckers was collected but it may not have been the one recorded. Actually, the recordings may be of more than one individual. "Rattle" call. Quality: 1. Level: 0. The woodpecker collected from this group is V. cassini. The various rattle calls in this recording, if of more than one individual, are nonetheless essentially identical. By geographical probability this is the species that should be in this locality. V. passerinus would be the only "possible" alternative (considering that Rio Grande is close to the Delta); I don't know its voice but it seems unlikely that it would be so closely associated with a group of V. cassini (or vice versa). Note: See Cut 33 of Phloeoceastes melanoleucos for drums and calls that are very probably of this species (almost certainly, based on aural comparison today. 22/1/74 PAS.
