Detalles de la observación

At 9:10 I was turning the bend on the boardwalk here (36.9527732, -122.0594704) when I heard a very interesting call that sounded winter-ish. I have never had a pacific wren here before so it immediately stood out. The initial calls were “chimps” and they sounded like a SOSP. I listened and got recordings and could not find the bird. I did a bit of winter wren playback with no luck. At 9:16 the bird started calling again and popped into view, where I noticed that the supercilium was especially white and the bird was not as ruddy brownish as a typical pacific. I then spent the next 5 minutes recording and observing the bird as it moved closer. It then chilled out and eventually came closer due to some more playback. It then started doing the rapid, rattle type call and showing very well, where I obtained better views and documentation. On closer inspection the bird seemed drab with a pale throat. I stayed with the bird in that general vicinity for 20 minutes. I have sent this bird around to many people who tend to lean on the side of “it sounds more wiwr-ish than a pacific but it’s not obvious” and “the bird generally looks on the wiwr side and has traits of wiwr more than pacific.” Hopefully people can go out and further document this very interesting bird. Will submit to CBRC and depending on future opinions will update this list. ***if accepted WIWR would be a first SCZ county record***
