Large duck— distinctive male with iridescent green head and familiar yellow bill. Grayish body, observed on runway being mobbed by Brown Noddy. Good record for NWHI & Kure. Sorry for the Where's Waldo photo, it's next to the buoy. Nick Note: Only brought binoculars out to runway unfortunately so I have an iPhone photo that’s diagnostic, don’t judge quality please. The swooping terns were treating this poor thing like it was a sea eagle lol. I couldn’t see it at first so here I was thinking it was going to be a pueo or perry— come to find it was a Mallard. Flushed by the terns toward Monument and did not relocate yet. Would like to get better photos, as I think this is the only Mallard photo I’ll have on eBird now.
