Nicely complimenting the pumpkin on the railing: Mostly yellow head with remnants of orange-red on forehead and chin, a faint suggestion of an eyeing, dark wing, yellow/white wing bars, yellow belly and bright yellow rump. What a gift! Exchanged this much appreciated opportunity with two passes to The Birds of Vermont Museum and Running Saps syrup from Sleepy Hollow, (a bird friendly sugar bush complete with a sticker of cousin tanager, Scarlet, on the label). Lastly, I was able to capture the tanager's chip notes ; sets of two or three quick notes; calling from the trees near the house.
