Detalles de la observación
Just after I passed Squantum yacht club (heading up the beach towards Squantum), I saw the silhouettes of a pair of swallows out of the corner of my eye. Initially, I was just shocked to see a swallow in November, and I was certainly not expecting the ID! My first thought was Tree Swallow, however their shorter wings and squared tails did not add up. Those morphological details coupled with the pale underside, dark cap and back, and pale orange throat and rump all looked good for cave swallow. They put on quite a show, giving incredible views, even flying within feet of me, leaving no doubt of their ID. I first observed them at around 4:14, and had eyes on them for a good ten minutes before they disappeared southeast down the beach. Part of a large movement for this species in New England over the past couple days. Poor photos.
