Cuckoo for cocoa puffs mega rarity found by a non birder but knew about the sighting from Jay McGowan (Thank you!) Seen right away with the help of Jeff G (Thank you!), was on the farmland behind the tractor on a rig frame upon first arrival. Then flew because of the flock of canada geese or who knows what, over Roanoke Ave to the tomato crop posts/buffalo farm and hung out there for a while. 40°56'55.9"N 72°41'16.4"W Medium sized old world cuckoo with long pointed wings and long rounded tail. We observed the bird posted upright, mostly hoping or taking short flights, foraging on green caterpillars, staring at us, a few tail pumps, and excreting guano. Looked to be a juvenile due to the amount of brown versus blue-gray. Barred rusty brown on white belly. Yellow=bill base, iris, orbital ring, legs and feet. White nape patch was visible which points to Juv as well. Best seen with scope but if you are still and patient the bird might hop and forage towards you if you are lucky. Unfortunately the bird did not vocalize :( but really incredible to see the bird with great company! -M
