Heard only. Went looking for this because Nancy Welter had reported it this morning. I did not hear it my first time around the lake but it was busy with walkers and joggers and dogs then. Around 630 when I was back near the boathouse I heard a sparrow call I did not recognize (I need to get better about reviewing calls before I go looking for things instead of using the method of just listening for things I don’t recognize). Merlin ID as white throated. It was only calling for a couple minutes around 6:30 PM, just after sunset. Around 615 I had also heard a weird high trilling call that I did not recognize, also by the lake but closer to the rec center and too far away from me for me to pinpoint it when I heard it. When I was listening to White and sparrow calls to confirm the Merlin recording the trill call matches White throat also. Both times I heard it it was in the dense willows right along the edge of the lake. It did not come out when I pished. And was close to dark anyway.
