I startled the bird and it flew from the paddling launch to the other side of the river. I immediately noticed the white bird that was noticeably smaller than a Great Egret. All white body, yellow legs and two-toned bill - yellowish at the base and dark at the tip. Juvenile-plumaged bird. Photographed as it perched on the other side of the Cape Fear River.
