Detalles de la observación
Observation: Lone shorebird foraging in the center of the river viewed from western bank at about 20-40m. Sun high above at 11:15am. Several videos taken through 10x42 binoculars to be posted. (35.1372307, -106.6855670) Behavior: Foraging. Repeatedly prodding the grassy bank and pacing back and forth Physical Description: Large shorebird (about the size of a curlew, maybe slightly smaller). Long slightly upcurved bicolored beak, reddish pink at base transitioning to dark half way. Beak is approx 2-3 times the length of the head. Neck and chest are a plain off-white gray, transitioning into a buffy warmer tones on flanks and undersides. Wings and back are light brown and mottled with fine white speckles. Short brown tail and dark legs. I believe this is a nonbreeding adult/immature marbled godwit. Other godwit species would be unlikely, and the buffy sides with speckled back and wings seems to match plumage of other marbled godwits in Late August. Photos to come.
