Detalles de la observación
Initially seen on side of Rd and flushed. Large size and dark upperparts twigged my attention to possibility of Grass-Owl. Parked up and played call from phone and got a response confirming suspicions. Distinctive cricket like trilling call. A bird then came in to check me out making several passes offering crippling views. Much larger size with longer wings than Barn Owl which it crossed paths with giving a good comparison. Long dangling legs/feet projecting well beyond tip of tail obvious, contrasting golden wash to breast, much darker upperparts as bird banked and stronger barring to remiges. An accurate count as I located a bird on the deck while another bird buzzed overhead with much smaller and stockier Barn Owl. Was able to obtain some record shots of the bird on the deck. Significant Long-haired Rat plague in area, likely many more around. This represents the 1st confirmed record in eBird dataset for inland/southern NT and likely 1st record in Barkly Tablelands since the early 1990's.
