With flock of Chipping, Field, and Vesper Sparrows, foraging on the ground in a burnt area. Same size and shape as other Spizellas, but rectrices appear only half-grown. Like a pale, dusty-colored Chipping Sparrow. No rust in crown that is finely and evenly streaked with black, and has no broader central stripe. Drab face with narrow eyering, indistinct dark malar streak.
