Female and immature male together about mid-river. Both initially sleeping and slowly drifting downriver (north) before eventually waking and flying back upriver (south) towards lake. Large, heavy-bodied ducks with relatively rounded foreheads and short, stubby bills. Imm male blackish overall with slightly paler head, pale whitish breast, white patches on rear flanks, and dull orangish bill. Female uniform dark brown overall with finely patterned plumage and blackish bill. JM and AG distant photos.
