Detalles de la observación
I heard a group of dueting, squealing birds coming from roadside vegetation, and stopped to investigate. One individual emerged from vegetation and bluff-charged me, before retreating back into the forest. The bird I saw running on the ground was significantly smaller than a chicken, blackish and had a cocked, short tail. It had a scurried, quick gait as it retreated. Recording made of dueting, grunting individuals in forest. Four individuals is a conservative estimate of the group size based on vocalizing birds. Given I did not get great views, I played this recording to two hunters in our expedition group and they identified the species from a "lineup" of birds represented by illustrations. This is the first published recording of Hypotaenidia insignis that I am aware of. Recording: XC925137
