Detalles de la observación
As we walked north along the east side of the Tip I heard the song: a quiet “chiddle chiddle chew” as if it were singing through clenched teeth Another way of expressing this is that there are no vowel sounds in the song. Over the next 10 minutes we had brief looks as the bird worked through the vegetation at eye level: A small mostly grey vireo. Head mostly grey with a faint white eye-ring with a supraloral extension, eyes dark, underparts light grey with greenish yellow flanks and a yellow- green wash across the breast. Wings greyish with two narrow white wing bars. Back greenish. Tail rather long in proportion to the body, which it cocked at an upward angle. Legs black. The bird was re-found about an hour later farther north along the trail to the Serengeti Tree and beyond. We heard it singing on and off for another 15 minutes but most could not even obtain a glimpse. Clearly the eastern (nominate) subspecies, Vireo bellii bellii.
