Continuing. First spotted by Braxton waaaaayyyyy out on a very distant berm while we were still on the paved path. We eventually made it out to the field and found the bird sitting on the road here: (33.6701703, -117.7282721). We enjoyed decent looks of it there before it flew to a rock at (33.6720395, -117.7261002), where we were treated to amazing looks at close range for over 15 -20 minutes. Large falcon with grayish brown back, sharply patterned white breast with brownish streaks/spots all over. Wings light brownish/gray with dark “armpits” seen in flight. Outer edge of wings and primaries light gray with a light barring pattern. Bright yellow feet. Face white with dark patch behind eye, strong but thin white supercillium, dark “mustache” stripes, yellow verde and eyering, fairly small grayish bill. Legs white with thin dark streaks. Tail about average length for a falcon, mostly same color/pattern as wings, but definitely appeared a paler brown, alrhough we didn’t see the tail very well. Such a beautiful bird! Sad to know what will happen to this habitat. Many photos
