Sorry for some human intrusion, but the bird called off and on in while we were seeking it, and sometimes when we were speaking. This is the bird that was making this sound though - that's how we finally found it.
Detalles de la observación
This bird looks for the most part like a Nuttall's. However, it repeatedly did the ladderback call. I managed to get a few recordings of it, one is stitched together as it did it intermittently. The bill seems a bit heavy and large for a Nuttall's and the red on the head has feathers all the way to the front. The call and those characteristics in this location, where ladderbacks are often found (I've seen them here before) suggest that it might be a hybrid.
