Detalles de la observación
Juvenile bird found late this morning by Gary Herritz and continued through the afternoon off and on. Bird spent a good chunk of the mid-afternoon foraging pretty high in and around the many large trees on the island just upriver from the "boat ramp" at Salineno (where the road through town dead ends at the Rio Grande). Island it foraged on located here: 26.519089,-99.120574. Bird could be viewed from a ways down the trail that parallels the Rio going upriver. Directly across from myself and Evan Farese for a while. Later flew downriver past the boat ramp and perched before getting up and soaring again in that area. Moves around quite a lot while hunting, so hopefully not to difficult to track down if it stays in the general area. At one point I watched it pull out and tear apart some sort of prey from a hole in a tree snag - probably a bat from what I could tell.
