Detalles de la observación
Sapsucker from yesterday was in the identical spot. Red crown and red throat. No red on nape. Dingy wash on front and back. The first photo suggests the red throat might creep into and break up the black line -- but a bit inconclusive, couldn't get a totally clear view in person. Location: A few steps from the trailhead/parking lot in downtown Forestville there is a building on the right side with a butterfly and music notes painted on it. The sapsucker was in the large tree directly next to that building. Coordinates are 38.473016,-122.893809. Both today and yesterday, it appears to prefer the central-most trunk of that particular tree. ID thoughts welcomed! :)
