Fantastic find by Collin Porter (continued at 42.0598730, -87.6709467). An overall large, dark finch with long wings. Pale gray wedge wrapping from eye to eye, with brown cheeks and dark forehead (tephrocotis group). Beautiful pink flanks with subtle frosty pink marks on the wings. Bill dusky yellow. The bird spent most of the time foraging on the ground in the open fairly close to all observers, only flying when gulls would come too close, but eventually returning to same spot.
