Hopelessly backlit digibin photo.
Detalles de la observación
This lone bird was sitting, preening, and eating grass on the side of the fairway next to a golf course water hazard/reservoir. As I was approaching the edge of the fairway, I was thinking this was going to be a Mallard (bare eyeing it). Through the glass it was evident it had a stubby black bill and black legs and feet. Also evident was the white necklace. The body was dark overall with white lower belly and undertail coverts and white upper tail with black outer corners. This is rather early as previous fall records in Kern are primarily in late October through November.
