Detalles de la observación
Continuing in north bay be trestle, found yesterday by Derek Stoll. Appears to be a bird coming into adult plumage showing brownish feathering on its back, with some browns in neck. Bill has almost completely turned black with red “lipstick” . Today I had about a minute view at a close proximity before it went down a canal out of view behind reeds. The neck was held straight up through the observation, and showed a peaked head. At one point the bird swam at me and I could see the triangular watch mark above the bill. It’s hard to tell whether it is an escapee. I looked for any signs of bands on legs as it paddled but couldn’t see any. The escapee noted in Columbia earlier this year seemed to be a full adult bird and supposedly had escaped from Selkirk in early 2022 , which doesn’t match the plumage/molt of this bird. I will research into to seeing if any other known escaped birds are around .
