A male, female, and juvenile (sex undetermined) Northern Cardinal were out foraging. The juvenile kept begging to be fed, but I never saw the adults feed it. In watching cardinal "families" on our property, it always strikes me that the male is feeding the juveniles and never the female. Once the young have fledged, is this typical behavior for the male to be the predominant feeder of the young birds?
