Continuing bird found (again) by Bruce Nott, yesterday. I had excellent looks at the bird in Newburgh and decided to give it a shot in DC and by the time I got to Long Dock Park the bird had flown south to the Global Oil terminal (Bruce checked) Carena and I drove to Dennings Point and observed 7 cormorants and while we knew one of them was the bird, it was wildly hard to ascertain any additional information on one specific individual Carena and I thought was THE bird. Carena took some video and after close examination on a larger screen, the dark bird on the right appears to be the Neotropic Cormorant. This bird was jet black compared to the lighter DCCOs, the head was more rounded and looked smaller, the yellow gular patch wasn't as pronounced/barely showing vs the other birds which even at that distance was obvious, and if you look carefully you can make out a flash of white etching around the chin. I would not recommend trying to twitch this bird in this manner without knowing where it is on the other side of the river and trying to get some sort of photo or video documentation. However, the bird has been known to wander to Long Dock Park so it is still worth checking for it there.
