This woodpecker was observed at the top of a telephone pole along Madera Canyon Road just up the canyon a bit from Santa Rita Lodge. It was perched long enough for good views and photographs in the evening light. Overall dark with a strong pink belly and flanks. The size was about the size of a Gila woodpecker.
