Detalles de la observación
Observed a compact-shaped, high-flying accipiter moving north (apparently migrating) with mixture of soaring and gliding. The wings appeared relatively broad and pushed forward. The tail was more squared off than is typical for COHA, but did have some curvature. The head was small and did not stick out from the wings as much as COHA. The wings appeared to bulge out on both leading (unlike COHA) and trailing edge of wings. The combination of small head and broad, pushed forward wings support SSHA over COHA. Distant, over exposed backlit photos (essentially black and white photos) support shape description. Date on the very tail end of winter/migrant departure curve for SD.
