Detalles de la observación
As is my routine, I was driving by the pond on my way home to see if there was anything noticeable on the water. I immediately recognized the silhouette of the Pied-billed Grebe and noticed a larger waterfowl next to it. It wasn’t a duck or a cormorant, so I grabbed my bins to check it out. I was very surprised to see a Red-necked Grebe! Winter plumage. It was larger than the Pied-billed, the bill was yellowish and larger than a Horned Grebe’s. It had a dark crown and cheeks, and pale ear patches. I took some photos with my cell phone and will see if any are good enough for ID purposes..
