A huge surprise! Pulled over on Road H northeast, where it meets highway 172 to check a patch of sagebrush, when I noticed a medium sized shorebird run out into the road from the yard of a white house about 75 yards up the road from where I was. I was immediately struck by the slender shape of the bird, the long legs, upright posture, and long neck supporting a tiny head. The bird was viewed in harsh light at a distance of roughly 75 yards with Swarovski 10x42 NL binoculars. I was unable to note much for color or patterning, as most of my time viewing after the initial identification was spent trying to photograph the bird. After standing in the road for about 15 seconds, it took off and flew east. I was able to keep it in view for around 30 seconds before losing it as it disappeared on the horizon. Attached are the (very poor) photos I was able to obtain.
