Continuing, edge of Hammock Grove. County lifer. Grayish nondescript sparrow with muted yellow lore and whitish throat and lighter belly. Originally found yesterday by Brooklyn Bird Club walk. Increasing wind and persistent rain was not ideal. I considered GI trip for this morning but rain and strong wind gusts changed my mind and I went to N end instead. Later in the day, considering that I cannot make a trip to GI next two days due to prior engagements, I made a insane decision and jumped on subway and made it to the last ferry. It almost seemed that it was after all the bad idea when I did not see it for first 25 min. Rain & wind were getting stronger (I was unable to use my umbrella) while I was standing and I started thinking to give up the search to make it to 5:30 pm ferry. That was the exact moment I heard buzzy call. I looked around the direction. I did not see it. I started recording the calls, thinking I may have to be satisfied only with the sounds. The calls moved in the shrubs to left but it still remained invisible. Then suddenly it started singing and finally I saw the sparrow. It was in front of fences, very low and open. It kept singing for a few minutes just for me(!) until a park service car scared it and made it fly away to back section of Hammock Grove. I was amazed. It was perfect timing and left me enough time to make it to 5:30 pm ferry. Very bad ID photos.
