Detalles de la observación
In the immediate preceding checklist (of the guest house area), I had mentioned about hearing a distant call of the great thick knee. Judging by the direction of the call, I thought of a probable patch where they could be possibly seen and to my delight, there they were! Three individuals. I sat down and observed them for almost half an hour - 1. One of the three was giving that typical single note metallic call and yet it took me a while to figure out which one, for I never saw any of them opening their bills while calling. After watching closely, I realised their throats swell while calling, but they do not open their bill at all! 2. From a murder of 5 large billed crows, two descended and were bothering them. The Great thick knees resisted and fought back by spreading their wings across and flapping them at the crow. After two/three hasty attempts, the crows flew away. 3. At one point, all of a sudden, I saw the three individuals sit down and lower their heads. The very next second I realised why - a peregrine falcon was flying by. They stood up again, as soon as it was out of sight. While the three were in front of me, I heard the distant call of another individual coming from the mangroves on the right-hand side. Possibly the same that sounded nearby from the guest house area, as mentioned in the preceding checklist.
