Detalles de la observación
An adult leucophrys with clearly defined dark lores where it’s dark lateral crowns met the black eyestripes at the loral area. On further examinations of the pictures, it is without surprise that the individual does not fit the typically described Oriantha. Bill was not entirely pink like it is described; instead the distal ends was less so and more orange-peach like that of Gambelli; however the pinkish hue increased towards the proximal end of the bill and especially more so on the upper mandible. The bend of the wing that is supposed to appear white was difficult to observe in real life as well picture since most of the time feathers from its sides and flanks fluffed up to cover the rather limited tract around the scapulars. The only distinguishing fieldmark that was readily observed in the pictures was that of the mantle. In all the pictures taken, the mantle had pale edges of light gray with deep purple/chestnut centers whereas the mantles of most of the other obscured leucophrys had buffy edges and dark brown/black centers. This particular individual was feeding with hordes of other leucophrys. Got decent looks and pictures. Possible second oriantha, an immature with shades of dark lores coming in, observed in field a few times but did not seem to get focused pictures of it, only of it accompanying other birds at the edges of the frame. The parts of its forecrown had molted into black and white but most of the lateral crown stripes were brown, and parts of median were mostly buffy. First picture credit to Nurit K.
