Detalles de la observación
First saw them as a wave of birds coming off the edge of the highway where they were gleaning sand deposited by snow plow. Flew up into adjacent spruce with swirling flight similar to rosy finches, but these were much different in coloration and smaller. Got a spotting scope on them and had excellent views as they flew back and forth from the road to the trees. Very surprised to see so many, but were able to easily differentiate them from red crossbills and pine siskins that were doing the same thing. Smaller, lighter in color across the chest, brilliant red foreheads, black chins, with many showing brilliant red upper chests. They look very similar to redpolls that I have seen in Scotland.
