Yellow-shafted Flicker near Pony Lake, near Cape Chiniak, Kodiak AK
Detalles de la observación
A Yellow-shafted Flicker male was in old growth spruce woods at the north end of Sawmill Lake near Cape Chiniak. I followed the bird from spruce to spruce as it picked off bark and moss looking for food. The shafts of the wing and tail feathers were yellow. There was a bright red V on the gray nape, and a black whisker mark on the brown face. At one point the flicker was being chased by a magpie. This is the first Kodiak archipelago flicker record documented by photograph.
