Detalles de la observación
Comments by Chris Aquila: Highly unexpected. Bird was first noticed by Zane Marshall and we all subsequently studied and photographed it extensively for approximately 20/25 minutes.Plumage is consistent for an approximate 1 year old (immature plumaged) individual, showing expected/diagnostic white lateral stripe on flanks, and the very beginnings of a few yet noticeable black feathers on lower breast/belly, indicative of the eventual black bars/banding which will become more prominent by late Autumn/early winter. In addition, this individual is within plumage variation range in that not all yearling birds will have developed any noticeable white feathers at the base of the bill - as is the case with this individual. In fact, this specimen is still showing some evidence of a very thin line of "dark feathers at the base of the bill, which is more characteristic of GWFG Juvenile plumage and is usually but not definitively lost before they reach 1 year of age such as this bird. This last point more or less emphasizes the variation in development, which is relatively commonplace in their 1st year natural history.
